A massive landslide struck the Vaishno Devi shrine’s new access route near the Satya View Point on the Himkoti route, following intense rainfall in the region. While no casualties were reported, the battery car, helicopter, and cable car services were immediately suspended as a safety precaution.
Services Temporarily Halted
According to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), the landslide occurred on June 23, impacting a 30-feet area. The shrine’s authorities quickly diverted pilgrims to the old traditional route, allowing safe and continuous foot movement to the holy Bhawan.
“Men and machinery were pressed into service to clear debris and restore the affected section. Until then, services will remain suspended,”

Heavy Rainfall Triggers Debris Flow
Heavy rains lashed the Trikuta Hills and Katra region on Sunday. Rainwater built up near the hills caused loose rocks and debris to crash down the new Himkoti route. Officials warned of more weather disruptions and advised pilgrims to follow the official advisory.
For now, all pilgrim traffic is being routed via the traditional uphill path, which remains operational.
