Karnataka Issues New COVID-19 Guidelines for Schools as Cases Rise; 63-Year-Old Man Dies in Bengaluru

BENGALURU, May 31: Amid a steady rise in COVID-19 cases, the Karnataka Health Department has released updated guidelines for schools reopening after summer vacation. These measures are designed to safeguard students, teachers, and staff as academic sessions resume.

Parents have been urged not to send children to school if they show symptoms like cough, fever, or cold. Children should only return to school once they have fully recovered. In case any student develops symptoms on campus, school authorities must inform the parents immediately and send the child home.

Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare, Mr. Shivakumar, has directed all schools to maintain cleanliness and implement COVID-appropriate behaviour (CAB). This includes mandatory hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette, and vigilance among school staff. If any teacher or staff member shows symptoms, precautionary steps must be taken without delay.

Bengaluru Reports Fourth COVID-19 Death in Karnataka

Meanwhile, the state has reported another COVID-19-related death, taking the total toll to four. A 63-year-old man from Bengaluru Urban passed away on May 29. The patient was undergoing post-operative chemotherapy for oral cancer and had a history of pulmonary tuberculosis as a co-morbidity.

According to health officials, the cause of death was a combination of thrombosis, cancer cachexia, and incidental COVID-19 positivity. The patient had been fully vaccinated. He was admitted to a private hospital on May 21 with complaints of weakness and died eight days later.

Health officials continue to monitor the situation closely and have urged the public to remain vigilant but calm. Following safety guidelines remains the best defense against the virus.
