Indian Railways has officially announced a revision in passenger fares effective July 1, 2025, marking the first fare hike in years. The decision impacts over 13,000 daily non-AC mail and express trains across the country.

Fare Hike Breakdown

  • Non-AC Mail/Express Trains: Increase of 1 paisa/km

  • AC Coaches: Increase of 2 paisa/km

  • Ordinary Second Class (Above 500 km): 0.5 paisa/km

  • No fare hike for suburban trains and Monthly Season Tickets (MSTs)

  • No change for journeys under 500 km in ordinary second class

Officials emphasized that the hike is nominal and aimed at improving railway services and managing rising operational costs.


Tatkal Ticketing Changes: Aadhaar Mandatory from July 1

In a parallel update, the Railway Ministry has also rolled out Aadhaar verification for Tatkal ticket bookings, effective July 1, 2025.

  • Aadhaar authentication mandatory for all Tatkal bookings

  • Bookings available only via official IRCTC website or app

  • From July 15, 2025, an OTP-based verification will be required

  • OTP will be sent to the Aadhaar-linked mobile number during booking

This move aims to curb ticketing fraud and ensure transparency, especially in high-demand Tatkal bookings.
